You can paint them, apply wallpaper or install wall panelling. Of the three options, wall panelling is arguably the best method when it comes to making the biggest impact on revamping your rooms. The good news is that it costs a lot less than you may think.
Wall panels are great features to decorate your interiors as well as add functionality and structural characteristics to your home. They are also easy to install. You can do-it-yourself or hire a professional. Either way the panels will add flair to your décor, provide some character and improve the functionality of your rooms.
Wall panels do not require special care. To maintain the panels and ensure their durability, you only need to wipe them about once a month with a damp cloth or detergent. If there are damages you can also easily replace damaged components without necessarily removing the whole panel.
As the name suggests, these wall panels are used to improve the aesthetics of a wall as well as to protect it from general damages like mould and mildew. Wainscoting is a common type of design where decorative wall panels are generally used to cover the lower half of walls (more on that below). Other commonly used decorative wall panels are made of synthetic materials like plastic and duropolymer (like those available here at WM Boyle).
Some of the latest types of decorative wall panels include 3D wall panels. These textured wall panels are available in a choice of patterns and help to add a unique touch to interiors.
Below are some ways to use wall panels for decorating and adding functionality to your rooms:
Vertical Panelling Add some ambience to your rooms using the texture provided by vertical wall panels. Customisable depending on the amount of space available you can either go for the traditional 6” – 8” boards or those slightly narrower boards to add some detail to your walls. There are several useful places for vertical panelling such as the brick wall where the fireplace is located, in the bedroom behind the bed or on the wall of the sink in the bathroom.
Wainscoting refers to a wall fixture or panelling that covers only a part of the wall. Traditionally the phrase was only used when wooden materials were added to the lower portion of walls, however it has now developed into somewhat of an all-encompassing term which is used to describe various styles and types of panelling such as beadboard, v-groove, or the “halfway method”. Depending on your taste, vertical or horizontal wall panels can be used to cover the lower part of walls (sometimes up to three quarters) for both practical and aesthetic purposes. Any of our panel mouldings can be used to form wall panels. Simply cut to length required and mount and join together using our specialist adhesives.
Beautiful wall panels can be created using our own panel mouldings. Any of our mouldings can be combined with the dado rails and skirtings to create your own unique design.
The project shown was formed using the wall panels below and above the dado rail which is a great way of elongating the height of the room. Our tall skirting board and large plain cornice was also used to finish it off.
